Raising concerns about NRES
If you need to raise concerns about the National Research Ethics Service (NRES), please email our Director, Dr Janet Wisely, in the first instance to discuss your concerns informally.
If the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may wish to pursue your concerns in accordance with the Health Research Authority’s complaints policy.
Raising concerns about a REC
Research Ethics Committees (RECs) are expected to scrutinise research proposals rigorously but should treat applicants fairly and courteously at all times. If you believe that your application has not been reviewed fairly or you are unhappy about the way that a REC has dealt with you or your application, you should contact the relevant REC Centre manager in the first instance to discuss your concerns informally.
If local resolution is not possible, your concerns will be addressed in accordance with the policy set by the REC’s appointing authority. In some cases, we may agree for the appointing authority to delegate this responsibility to us. We undertake to address the issues you raise promptly and impartially.
Resubmission / appeal
If your application has not received a favourable opinion you may appeal, or resubmit your application. More information is available on the Resubmission / appeal page.
