In all cases brain is collected. In addition, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples are collected in selected cases.
Intended use of Samples
The QSBB's mission is to support research in neurodegenerative diseases and, using established MREC approved protocols, it provides tissue samples to researchers working in the QSBB, Institute of Neurology and elsewhere in the UK and overseas.
Research data are published in peer-reviewed journals. As a direct result of the effort made by the QSBB a significant number of scientific papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals by members of the QSBB, other scientists of the Institute of Neurology and The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (46 papers in 2005-2006) and also from institutions supported by the QSBB with brain tissue.
Research to be undertaken
Research projects sponsored or conducted by the QSBB are in research in neurodegenerative diseases.
